Gift Exchanges

We had our bunco group Christmas party last night. It was lots of fun and the food was good but I do have one question. Why do people bring total crap to a gift exchange that you're supposed to spend $15 on? It's almost like people walk around wally world or someplace similar and pick up the first thing they can find that costs around that amount. I know that it's hard to find something that would suit everyone in the group but don't buy no-name brand bottles of irish creme, neon green bathroom towels or a $15 gift card to MickeyD's for a group of adults. It's just one of those uncomfortable moments when you're sitting in the circle and and someone opens the gift that you bought and you're wondering what everyone else is thinking. I would have rather gone home with mine than what I ended up with!

Six out of 12 of the kids in my class have been out sick both Monday and today. I'm assuming they are sick but I don't understand why there are always a couple of kids that their parents insist on sending them to school sick. It is so frustrating and frankly, pretty rude. I don't want to get sick nor do I want to be bringing germs home to my children. It's unfortunate that people have gotten so wrapped up in their jobs that they can't take the time to nurse their child back to health.

Wake up call...

I love it when the first sound I hear in the morning is my husband grumbling that he's the only only one up. Yes, I know that oldest son has an early tournament this morning but we agreed that I would come later with younger son so he doesn't have to be out there all day. Why would I get up at 5:30 to watch him leave?? I wish he would just ask me to help without grumbling about it.

My oldest son's lacrosse team played two games yesterday. They got their butt's kicked 11-0 in the first game and tied 5-5 in the second. They have alot to work on but they are having fun playing. I guess that's all that matters!

Charlie

My dog has a $500 butt hole. Curious? Twice she has had a ruputured anal gland that has cost me over $200 when it is all said and done. This time the vet is worried that she may have a tumor. I'll take her back tomorrow and see if the antibiotics have worked to shrink it. If not, then cancer is a possibility. I hope the meds work. She's my baby and I'm not ready to lose her yet.

Studying

Finals week is this week for my geography class and I have been studying like crazy. The test is a US map and a world map. We have to label every state in the US (easy) and then 50 other countries in the world. Doesn't sound to hard but when you get down to it, there are so many small countries that I've hardly heard of! I now know all of the countries in North and South America and Africa. I just have to finish Europe and Asia. I plan on taking my final tomorrow so I guess I should hit the books for the evening.

I only have 1 more speech to do for my Speech class and then a test and 3 assignments for Government and I'll be done until mid-January! I need a break. YAY!!

Don't you love it when....

....your husband calls at 4:30 and says his boss may be coming over for dinner?

I'm thankful that he had other plans. Whew!

I finally got the tree up yesterday. I started out putting the traditional tinsel on the tree and then decided to get rid of it and use Mardi Gras beads instead. It turned out pretty cute. Most of my ornaments are 'boy toys' like St*ar W*ars and G*I*Joe. Once the kids move out, they'll have a bunch of stuff for their own tree and I can have something pretty and girly. I'll post pictures later.

We spent some time at my mom's today. We put up her Christmas tree and cleaned out the garage. One of my parent's friends came to help with garage since mom doesn't know what to do with half of the junk. She's having a huge garage sale this week to try to get rid of some of my dad's stuff. My dad died this past June and it's so weird going through all of his stuff.

Work Chrismas Party

Who ever heard of a work Christmas party where the employees have to pay for their boss? I work at a private Christian preschool that doesn't pay very much, but the work is great. They organized a party at a local Mexican rest. for all of the staff and are charging each of us $13.50 for fajitas. That does not include a drink....not even tea. Then they had the nerve to ask each of us to chip in to pay for the school board to join us. What?? I don't even make $10 and hour to take care of and teach 13 kids every day and they can't take US to dinner? I've never heard of such a thing. So, the general consensus is that no one is going because it such a rip off. A couple of girls are going for the margaritas, but I think I will sit this one out. I don't like being a party pooper but I'm cheap like that!

We're planning to somewhat decorate the house for Christmas tonight. We'll probably go get the tree and get everything out of the attic. I'll probably have to do most of it myself tomorrow afternoon. Finals are next week and the following week, so I am more concerned with studying than decorating at this point. Have you put your tree up yet?
